Cyclist Tragically Killed in Collision with Vehicle on Cortez Rd. in Bradenton, Florida

BRADENTON, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a cyclist was tragically killed in a collision with a vehicle that happened on Cortez Road in Bradenton, Florida. Police are still reviewing the events of the crash, and it is not yet clear if charges are expected to be filed.*

The accident happened in the late morning in the 2300 block of Cortez Road, near 26th Street. Police officers and WWSB report that around 10 a.m., a man was riding a bicycle across the roadway and somehow passed in front of a westbound 2006 Lexus IS350. The Lexus driver reportedly tried to swerve to avoid a collision, but the front passenger’s side of the vehicle ended up hitting the bicycle. 

It is not clear at this time who had the right-of-way when the accident took place. No information about the intersection was reported, like whether it had a traffic light or a stop sign. The circumstances surrounding the collision have not been fully reported by investigators, and the official cause of the crash has not yet been determined. 

WWSB reports that the cyclist was seriously injured in the wreck, and emergency responders took him to Blake Medical Center, where he tragically died. The report identified him as a 65-year-old man. His city of residence was not listed in the report. 

The news report does not identify the driver of the Lexus but indicates he or she was 19 years old. It is unclear if the driver was injured. The report does not say how many people were inside the Lexus at the time of the crash.

Police officers are still investigating the collision, and no additional information has been released at this time. Investigators say that charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
