Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Hit by Car on Pembroke Rd. in Pembroke Pines, Florida

PEMBROKE PINES, FL. – According to a news report published online at, a pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car on Pembroke Road in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver’s view of the intersection was potentially blocked by a larger vehicle turning.*

The accident happened in the afternoon at the crossing of Pembroke Road with Southwest 72nd Avenue. The Pembroke Pines Police Department and Local 10 report that shortly before 2 p.m., a pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway on the west side of the intersection. At the same time, a large bus or truck was making a turn onto northbound 72nd Avenue from eastbound Pembroke. 

Officers report that the driver of a Honda Civic who was traveling west on Pembroke was potentially unable to see the intersection due to the large bus or truck, and this driver ran into the pedestrian who was in the roadway. The driver reportedly told authorities that his light was green at the time of the accident. The report did not say whether this was correct. It is unclear if the pedestrian was inside a crosswalk. 

Local 10 reports that the pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for emergency care. He was identified as a 20-year-old male. His injuries were described in the report as life-threatening. 

The driver of the Honda was identified as a 36-year-old male. The report does not say whether he was injured. It is unclear if he was the only person in the vehicle at the time. No information was reported about the bus or truck or its driver.
