There are several causes of pedestrian accidents, many of which are caused by a negligent driver. Examples of driver negligence in pedestrian crash cases are as follows:
- Driver distractions. Whether someone is eating, talking on a cellphone, texting or drinking, these behaviors are extremely hazardous and lead to serious and times fatal pedestrian crashes.
- Driving at an excessive rate of speed. When a driver is speeding, they are less likely to be able to stop in time to avoid an accident. It is always recommended that drivers follow the speed limit.
- Failure to obey traffic signs or signals. Failing to stop at a stop sign or red light can have fatal consequences for pedestrians crossing a roadway.
- Failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Drivers must stop and allow pedestrians to cross when in a designated crosswalk. Failing to do so can result in a serious and sometimes fatal accident.
