Driver Tragically Dies in Vehicle Accident on I-10 in Santa Rosa County, Florida

September 07, 2019

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report posted online at, a driver tragically died in a vehicle accident that happened on Interstate 10 in Santa Rosa County, Florida. It appears the accident occurred due to an overcorrection on the part of the victim, which sent his vehicle into the opposite lanes of travel.*

The accident occurred during the afternoon on the eastbound side of I-10. Florida Highway Patrol and WJHG report that around 3:45 p.m., a Nissan Titan was traveling west on the interstate and left the roadway for reasons not yet known. No mile marker or nearby exit was listed in the news report, so it is unclear where on the interstate this happened. Troopers say that after leaving the road, the driver of the Nissan overcorrected.

The Nissan then traveled back onto the interstate and crossed over the westbound lanes, then turned over onto its side. The Nissan continued across the interstate and ended up traveling into the eastbound lanes of the road, where the vehicle ended up losing a wheel. Troopers report that the loose wheel collided with an eastbound Toyota Camry.

WJHG reports that the driver of the Nissan was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital following the crash, and he tragically died at the hospital due to his injuries. The report says that he was a 55-year-old man from Spanish Fort, Alabama. Next-of-kin had not yet been notified at the time of the news report. It is not clear if any passengers were in the Nissan.

WJHG additionally reports that the driver of the Toyota and a passenger in the Toyota did not sustain injuries in the crash. Neither of these people was identified in the report.

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are still investigating the wreck, and no further information was reported by WJHG.
