Fatal Pedestrian Accident Reported on Hwy 20 in Freeport, Florida

FREEPORT, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a fatal pedestrian accident was reported on Highway 20 in Freeport, Florida. Limited information regarding the tragic accident has been released to the public so far, and Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the case.*

The collision took place during the late evening hours, close to the crossing of Highway 20 with County Road 883. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers and WEAR report that around 9 p.m., a pedestrian was walking in the vicinity of westbound Highway 20 and was somehow struck by a westbound truck. The make and model of the truck were not included in the news report. 

Authorities have not yet identified the cause of the accident. The report states that the pedestrian had been attempting to cross the highway at the time of the collision. It is unclear where in the roadway he was when the truck approached him. No description of the scene, including lighting, weather, or the condition of the road, was reported. 

WEAR reports that the pedestrian tragically died as a result of his injuries. Officials have identified him as a male. His age and hometown were not provided in the report. 

WEAR identified the driver of the truck as a male, as well. His age and hometown were also not reported. It is unclear if any passengers were in the truck at the time of the crash. No injuries to anyone in the truck were reported. 

Following the collision, the Walton County Sheriff posted a message to social media, saying, “WCSO deputies and Walton County Fire Rescue are on scene of a fatal traffic crash involving a pedestrian at Business 331 and Highway 20 W in Freeport … Florida Highway Patrol is en route. Please use caution in the area at this time.”
