Four People Tragically Killed in Head-On Crash on SW Williston Rd. in Sarasota, Florida

September 09, 2019

SARASOTA, FL. – According to an online news story reported at mysuncoast.com, four people were tragically killed in a head-on crash that happened on SW Williston Road in Sarasota, Florida. Three of the victims have been identified by investigating officials, while the fourth victim’s identifying information has not been released.*

The accident occurred early in the morning on an unknown stretch of SW Williston Road. A cross street was not reported, nor was any kind of landmark, so it is not clear exactly where the collision took place. Florida Highway Patrol and WWSB report that at about 4:30 a.m., a Toyota Highlander was traveling the wrong way on the road. Authorities say the Toyota was headed south in the northbound lanes.

It is unclear how long the driver of the Toyota had been traveling in the northbound lanes. At some point, the Toyota encountered a northbound Ford Expedition, and the two vehicles crashed into each other head-on. After impact, the Toyota caught on fire, and the fire spread to the Ford. Troopers have not yet provided possible explanations for the Toyota driver traveling the wrong way.

WWSB reports that three people in the Ford were tragically killed in the crash. The driver was identified as a 54-year-old man from Archer, Florida. The other two victims from the Ford were a 75-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman, both from Archer. WWSB reports that a third passenger in the Ford, identified as a 54-year-old woman from Archer, was injured and taken to Shands Hospital. Her injuries were said to be serious.

In addition, WWSB states that the driver of the Toyota was tragically killed in the crash. He has not yet been identified by officials. The news report did not say whether anyone else was riding in the Toyota at the time of the accident.
