Teen Involved in Pedestrian Crash on Cypress Point Boulevard in Polk County, Florida (FL)

July 31, 2020

POLK COUNTY, FL- writes that a crash occurred this week in Polk County after a drunk teenage driver struck four pedestrians. The driver, identified as a sixteen-year-old boy, is now facing charges in relation to the accident.*

The incident began when police arrived at a house following reports of a loud party. Many of the teens fled, and one of them drove across lawns and driveways, striking another vehicle before colliding with four other teens who were in a nearby driveway. Three sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. However, a teenage girl was dragged by the suspect's 2020 Kia Stinger. Ultimately, the driver dragged the girl for a total of 450 feet.

The victim is now in critical condition and was flown to the Arnold Palmer Hospital located in Orlando. The injuries that the girl suffered include fractures, internal injuries, and lost skin and muscle. After striking the four victims, the driver fled the scene. About eight miles from the site of the incident, the teen then crashed on Deen Still Road, close to Old Deen Still Road. The car was severely damaged in the wreck. The driver then exited the Kia and attempted to flee on foot.

Police were able to catch the suspect a short while later in a parking lot near the site where the car crashed. All of those involved were from Orange County. The resident where the party occurred was rented as a vacation home. It is not yet clear who rented the property or held the party. According to reports, the driver was exhibiting signs of alcohol impairment when the police arrested him. In a breathalyzer test, the boy blew a .121, far above the legal limit of .08 percent blood alcohol concentration.
