One Killed in Crash on Interstate 10 in Crestview, Florida (FL)

July 31, 2020

CRESTVIEW, FL- writes that a man died in a crash on Interstate 10 this week in Florida. The victim was identified as a 57-year-old man from Texas. Reports indicate that the crash took place in the mid-afternoon. The man died at the scene of the incident.*

Florida is home to some of the deadliest roadways in the country. In fact, according to a recent study, three of the ten more dangerous roads in the United States are located in Florida. The report analyzed data from three years, looking at the number of deadly collisions on each of the roads.

The most hazardous road in the Sunshine State was US-1, where over the three-year period, 160 people lost their lives. Interstate 95 was close behind with 158 fatalities, and Interstate 75 was the state's third deadliest roads with 122 deaths. Interstate 95 runs through several states and made the list of deadliest roadways in eight states.

While driving during winter weather is a known risk because of snow and ice, people often fail to appreciate the serious dangers posed by summer driving. Teenagers are out on the road in higher numbers through the summer months because they are not in school. Families are also out in larger numbers as they travel for summer vacations, picnics, or barbeques. The results can be chaotic and crowded roads.

One of the authors of the report pointed out that the number of fatal crashes in a state are usually linked to the population size. Florida, however, has about the same number as Texas and California, which are both much larger states. South Carolina also performed poorly because it had 82 deaths despite being one of the smallest ten states in the country.
