Tragic Crash Kills One on South Suncoast Boulevard in Homosassa, Florida (FL)

July 15, 2020

HOMOSASSA, FL- writes that a crash left one person dead and injured two others this week in Homosassa. The incident reportedly occurred at the intersection of South Suncoast Boulevard and Suffolk Terrace.*

Police indicate that the incident occurred when a driver heading southbound attempted to turn left off South Suncoast Boulevard and onto Suffolk Terrace. A car heading northbound was traveling through the intersection, and the two vehicles collided.

The impact caused the vehicle that was traveling straight to overturn several times. Two people in that vehicle were ejected in the wreck. A 31-year-old man, who was driving the car, died in the hospital a short while after the incident. The other victim ejected in the crash was identified as a 29-year-old woman, who suffered serious injuries. A three-year-old boy in the car was also injured in the accident.

The driver in the left-turning vehicle was identified as a 63-year-old man. Investigators are now saying that they believe that the driver who turned into the other vehicle may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal wreck.

The investigation is still underway.

While drunk driving has declined over the years, it still remains one of the most common causes of fatal crashes. Throughout the country, an average of 30 people dies each day in these incidents. Each year these numbers work out to about 10,000 or more fatalities.

Driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent per volume is illegal. However, even at lower levels, drivers experience a decline in their ability to safely operate a vehicle.
