Two Men Killed in Tragic Crash on US Highway 441 in Ocala, Florida (FL)

July 15, 2020

OCALA, FL- writes that a crash left two men died this week in Ocala. The incident took place at the intersection of US Highway 441 and County Road 316. Reports indicate that a sixteen-year-old driver from Fort McCoy drove through a stop sign striking the car in which the victims were traveling.*

The victims were a 37-year-old man, who was driving a pickup truck, and a 54-year-old man who was a passenger in the vehicle.

The teenager was also traveling in a pickup truck at the time of the wreck, and the vehicle rolled over following the impact. Reports indicate that the boy sustained injuries in the collision, but that he is expected to recover.

Two passengers in the teen’s pickup truck also sustained injuries when the truck rolled, and they were thrown from the vehicle. A seventeen-year-old from Citra is now in critical condition. Responders transported that individual to the Ocala Regional Medical Center. Another seventeen-year-old passenger from Ocala sustained severe injuries in the crash and is recovering at the UF Health Shands.

Both of the men in the other pickup truck died at the crash scene. The road remained closed for several hours after the horrific accident.

Teen drivers are far more likely to be involved in collisions than are other motorists. Car crashes kill more American teens than any other cause. The risk of a crash is higher when teens are traveling with other teenagers in the same vehicle. According to a study carried out by AAA, the risk of a crash increases 44 percent is a teen has one other teen in the vehicle, and no older passengers. That risk rises by two times is a second teenage passenger is in the car and quadruples for three or more teenage passengers being in the vehicle.
