July 09, 2020

MIAMI GARDENS, FL- writes that police are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist on State Road 7. The driver who struck the motorcyclist fled the scene.*

Police state that the crash was caught on a surveillance camera. The video shows a black sedan that turned left into the victim’s path. After the impact, the driver fled continued to travel on Northwest 181st Street.

The authorities have not released the name of the victim. Reporters spoke to a friend of the victim who said he stopped riding motorcycles because of the dangers. He was shaken up after learning of the victim’s death.

Anyone with information about the crash or the vehicle involved in the incident is being asked to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.

Florida has the third-highest number of deadly hit-and-runs in the nation. New Mexico came in the first place, and Louisiana landed in second place. The number of these incidents has been increasing over the years. The AAA states that the number of such incidents increased by 60 percent in a matter of just eight years. The majority of victims are people walking or cycling. Drivers tend to flee after striking these victims because they are more likely to have the opportunity to leave. When a car and a person collide, the car typically suffers only limited damage. In a deadly crash involving two cars, even a driver who wishes to flee may not be able to do so.

Pedestrian deaths have been increasing, and so hit-and-runs might be on the rise because there are more of these crashes. However, the AAA states that vehicle occupants are being killed by hit-and-run drivers more often in recent years as well.
