Crash Causes Car to Overturn on Southeast Ninth Avenue in Bradford County, Florida (FL)
BRADFORD COUNTY, FL- Wcjb.com writes that a crash occurred this week in Bradford County that caused one person to end up stuck inside of a vehicle. The incident took place when the driver, identified as a 27-year-old woman, failed to effectively navigate a sharp curve in the road. A 25-year-old passenger was also in the car.*
Reports indicate that the vehicle went airborne and then struck a sign before overturning. Responders had to extract one of the victims from the car. Helicopters were spotted in the area following the wreck. The conditions of the two victims were not released.
Rollover crashes that end in fatalities often involve occupants who failed to use their seatbelts. The reason that people are often killed in rollovers is that many are ejected from their cars. One study found that just under two-thirds of people killed in these incidents were ejected from their vehicles.
Drivers involved in rollover crashes are often under the influence of alcohol.
When a car rolls, the risk of deaths is higher than other types of collisions, and these incidents cause around twenty percent of all fatal collisions.
SUVs and other light trucks are involved in more rollover crashes than are sedans.
One of the factors involved in the majority of rollovers is a high rate of speed. Deadly rollovers tend to be most likely on roadways where the speed it 55 miles per hour or more. Accident reports following deadly rollovers involved speed as a factor 40 percent of the time. In non-rollover deadly collisions, speed was a factor only fifteen percent of the time.
