Teen Driver and Passenger Killed in Tragic Crash on North State Road 7 in Tamarac, Florida (FL)

July 09, 2020

TAMARAC, FL- writes that a crash left two teens dead and injured three others in Tamarac, Florida. The incident occurred when a 2010 Honda Civic was reportedly speeding southbound on North State Road 7. The driver attempted to change lanes but overcorrected, and the car began to slide. The vehicle then rotated before it struck a concrete pole.*

Reports indicate that the impact, which occurred on the driver’s side, caused the car to split into two. The victims were all rushed to the Broward Health Medical Center, where the seventeen-year-old girl driving the Honda was declared dead shortly after the crash. A fourteen-year-old girl from North Lauderdale, who was a passenger in the car, died hours later. Three teenage passengers in the car survived the terrible collision. Two of the surviving teens were fourteen-year-old boys, and the other is a fifteen-year-old girl, all are from Lauderdale Lakes. The surviving victims remain in serious condition.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speeding is a significant problem when it comes to teenage drivers. In 2016, more than one in three deadly crashes involving teenage drivers involved speeding.

Some research suggests that teens who drive their own cars are more inclined to speed. When teens borrow a car from their parents, they are less likely to drive it at high rates of speed. The study indicates that it might be wise for concerned parents to avoid purchasing a car for their teenage children.

Overall, teen drivers have higher fatality rates than do more experienced motorists. It is important that new drivers learn to buckle up and to avoid distractions when driving.
