July 09, 2020

ORLANDO, FL- writes that a crash occurred in the early morning in Orange County that injured five people this week. The wreck took place at the intersection of Colonial Drive and Hiawassee Road.*

In total, four vehicles were involved in the incident. According to a passenger in one of the involved cars, one of the drivers traveled through a red light. However, the police have not confirmed that the crash was caused by a violation of a traffic light.

Responders transported four of the victims to the Orlando Regional Medical Center. All four of those individuals were described as having suffered serious injuries in the collision. A fifth victim was transported to the Advent Health Orlando facility for treatment.

Footage of the scene shows that one of the involved vehicles lost its roof in the crash. All of the vehicles sustained serious damage in the accident.

A passenger spoke to reporters stating that he or she felt lucky to be alive after the terrible incident.

Officials closed down the roadway for several hours while crews worked at the scene.

Car crashes killed 3,217 people in Florida last year. In total, there were 400,788 reported collisions in the state, 166,702 of which resulted in injuries. Sadly, in 2019, the number of people killed in car accidents increased from 3,135 in 2018. While fatal collisions went up in 2019 in Florida, crash deaths dropped nationally. According to early estimates, the number of driver fatalities dropped by three percent, and passenger deaths declined by four percent. Motorcyclist deaths, pedestrian fatalities, and cyclist deaths all appear to have dropped as well.
