Driver Falls From Truck and Vehicle Strikes Building in Ocala, Florida (FL)

May 11, 2020

OCALA, FL- writes that a person operating a pickup truck fell from the vehicle, which then struck a building in Ocala. The incident took place this week in the morning. The truck ran into the side of a heating and air conditioning business.*

Reports indicate that the man was traveling towards a curve in the roadway and then fell from the truck because his door was not properly shut, and he failed to use his seatbelt. The truck then continued to travel into a sign going through a parking lot and colliding with the building.

The motorist stated that he was driving home from work at the time of the crash. He explained that the door swung opened, and he was scared. While he told reporters that he attempted to grab and close the door, he was not successful, and instead, he fell from the truck. The man sustained injuries in the incident, and police cited him for failing to use his seatbelt and for careless driving.

Careless and distracted driving can lead to dangers for everyone on the roadway. In Florida, pedestrian deaths are the highest in the country. Out of twenty cities considered the most dangerous for foot traffic, nine are in the Sunshine State. Florida’s roads are at least partially to blame for the high number of fatalities. The state’s infrastructure is built to accommodate high-speed traffic rather than pedestrians.

Florida lost 5,433 people in deadly pedestrian crashes over a ten-year period of time.

In addition to the poorly designed roads, the rising popularity of larger vehicles is likely contributing to the number of people killed in pedestrian incidents both in Florida and nationally.
