Crash Reported on Florida Turnpike in Palm Beach County, Florida (FL)

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL- writes that a crash took place on the Florida Turnpike in the northbound lanes. The incident occurred before the exit for Glades Road. The Florida Department of Transportation reported that one or more trucks were involved in the wreck.* 

Drivers in the area were directed to Interstate 95 or other alternative routes in an effort to reduce delays. 

Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has a website that keeps track of all crashes in the Sunshine State. Anyone looking to discover how many crashes have taken place, the number of roadway fatalities, or collision-related injuries can see those numbers as well as records from 2019 and 2018. 

According to the site, titled the Florida Crash Dashboard, there have been 102,837 collisions in the state of Florida in 2020. Of that total, 881 collisions resulted in fatalities. Already this year, 937 people died in car crashes in the state while 64,102 individuals were injured in wrecks. 

The site also records different types of incidents, such as pedestrian collisions, cyclist crashes, and motorcycle accidents. This year 208 pedestrians died in Florida, along with 42 people riding bikes and 162 motorcyclists. A disturbing 70 fatal hit-and-runs have also occurred in the state so far in 2020. 

In 2019, 3,210 people died in car crashes in Florida. By the end of the last year, the state lost 717 people in pedestrian crashes, 146 in bike accidents, and 518 in motorcycle wrecks. A total of 209 people died in hit-and-run incidents last year. 

When compared to 2018, the total number of people killed in vehicle-related incidents in Florida increased in 2019, although some of the categories saw minor declines in deaths.
