Greenville Man Injured In U-Turn Crash in Madison County, Florida (FL)

May 11, 2020

MADISON COUNTY, FL- Greenepublishing.com writes that a man from Greenville was severely injured in a recent crash in Madison County. The Florida Highway Patrol states that they were called to the scene in the early afternoon. The crash took place at the entrance of Greene Publishing Inc., which is located at the intersection of Harvey Greene Drive and State Road 53.*

Reports indicate that the victim, identified as a 76-year-old man, was stopped on State Road 53 in the southbound right turn lane as another vehicle was approaching from the north. The victim attempted to make a U-turn in an effort to head northbound towards Madison. An eighteen-year-old motorist from Madison collided with the left side of the victim’s car. Responders extracted the man from his damaged vehicle and transported him to a local hospital for treatment.

Drivers will attempt U-turns when they want to turn 180 degrees and head back the direction that they came from. In many instances, these turns can be legally performed. Of course, if a sign prohibits such a maneuver, then it is not permitted. Even if making a U-turn is legal, it can be a risky move. Before starting a U-turn, drivers must always ensure that they have a clear path free of other vehicles and pedestrians. Drivers making a U-turn should also use their left turn signal, and stay to the right of their lane in order to allow their vehicle to swing all the way to the left.

It is important to remember that if making a U-turn causes a driver’s car to enter the path of oncoming vehicles, then the turn is probably not legal as the other driver will likely have the right of way.
