Four Vehicle Crash Injures Two Near Ocala, Florida (FL)

May 04, 2020

OCALA, FL- writes that two people suffered injuries in a collision in Ocala this week that involved four vehicles. The accident shut down all lanes of Interstate 75 heading in both directions.*

Reports indicate that one of the involved drivers received a citation for careless driving after the crash. Police stated that a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling south in the inside traffic lane and that a Toyota Camry was in the same lane, behind the truck. The driver in the Ford applied the brakes, and the Toyota veered into the middle lane to avoid rear-ending the pickup truck. The Toyota failed to avoid the impact, and the Ford then drifted into the emergency lane on the left of the roadway.

The Ford collided with a guardrail and then overturned and entered the northbound traffic lanes. The Ford landed on top of a BMW in the northbound lanes. A semi was struck by the guardrail debris, which hit the trucker's windshield.

The person in the BMW, identified as a man, was transported to the Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment, as was the driver in the Ford. Neither of the victims sustained injuries that are considered life-threatening.

Car accident fatalities are on the decline around the country. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that the number of people killed in 2018 marked a drop of 1,000 deaths as compared to the previous year. However, the NHTSA also noted that the nation lost 36,560 lives in traffic violence.

Sadly, some types of accidents increased, including fatal pedestrian incidents, cyclist crashes, and crashes that killed the occupants of large trucks.
