Tragic Orange County Crash Kills Motorcyclist in Orange County, Florida (FL)

March 26, 2020

ORANGE COUNTY, FL- writes that a motorcyclist died in a collision this week in Orange County. The crash took place at the intersection of Clapp Simms Road and Narcoossee Road in the evening.*

Police stated that the incident involved the motorcycle and a U-Haul truck. Responders rushed the victim to the hospital where he was declared dead a short while later. The incident led to the closure of the northbound lanes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) writes that a higher percent of motorcycles are involved in deadly wrecks than are cars. While 13 out of every 100,000 cars are involved in a deadly collision, the number jumps to 72 out of 100,000 with motorcycles. Of course, some aspects of a motorcycle make it obvious that people are more likely to suffer severe injuries or be killed while on two wheels, as there are fewer protective features on a motorcycle.

Florida tends to be more dangerous for motorcyclists than many other states. In Florida, helmets are optional for bikers above the age of 21. The AAA states that only one out of every seven motorcyclists in the state rides with a helmet on.

Other drivers are another hazard for Florida’s motorcyclists. About 68 percent of drivers in the Sunshine State admits to not using turn signals, and about 42 percent of crashes involving motorcycles occur when a car is making a left turn.

The weather also plays a role. The warm temperatures in Florida mean that people are out riding more often. The more time spent on the road on a motorcycle, the greater the chance of being in a crash.
