One Killed in Tragic Accident in Flagler County, Florida (FL)

March 26, 2020

FLAGLER COUNTY, FL- writes that a collision occurred this week involving multiple vehicles. The wreck, which took place on Interstate 95, left one person dead. Reports indicate that four vehicles were involved in the incident. All of the northbound lanes were closed down following the crash. Statements did not include information regarding the identity of the victim, or the condition of the others involved in the accident. *

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), car crashes are the number one cause of fatalities involving individuals between the ages of five and 34. When it comes to all age groups, automobile collisions are still in the top ten causes of death. The impact of these crashes is horrific and tragic for the victims' families and loved ones.

The CDC reports that these incidents also take a financial toll. For instance, one study indicated that in one year in Florida, the crash-related fatality costs reached 3.16 billion dollars. This massive total includes 40 million dollars in medical care costs and 3.12 billion dollars in the work loss costs. Work loss costs are an estimate based on the salary, benefits, and value to a household that a person will contribute through the remaining course of their life. Because so many younger individuals die in car crashes, the work loss costs are high from these crashes.

In order to lower the number of deadly collisions, and avoid becoming a statistic, it is important for everyone to always use a seatbelt, and to buckle children into child restraints that are age-appropriate. Laws that deter drunk driving and other dangerous behaviors are also useful in lowering the total number of deaths.
