GDOT Researches Intersection in Houston County For Possible Improvements
HOUSTON COUNTY, GA - A Houston County intersection is being investigated for possible improvements to prevent crashes. Several members of a Houston County Facebook group have spoken out, saying that the intersection of Tom Chapman Boulevard and Watson Boulevard is dangerous.* According to the group, the intersection should have a traffic light installed to increase safety.*
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) had not heard concerns about the intersection previously. An engineer working for the county was called to research the intersection to find potential problems and solutions.
The engineer stated that further research should be conducted to determine if more needs to be done at the location. According to GDOT, time is required to fully investigate whether a change is warranted at Tom Chapman and Watson. If the study concludes that there is an issue that requires fixing, then improvements will be considered. The number of accidents involving the intersection were not noticeably high but there were several rear-end collisions.
For citizens who are concerned about other potentially hazardous traffic locations, talk to your city or county leaders. Those individuals can help bring matters to GDOT's attention.
