Four-vehicle Car Accident on Interstate 95 near Boynton Beach, Florida

March 18, 2020

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a four-vehicle car crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the Boynton Beach area. The motorist who died, a 33-year-old man from West Palm Beach, crashed into the rear of a box truck as the truck, along with a sports utility vehicle and a tractor-trailer truck, veered in an attempt to avoid debris that fell in the highway according to the Palm Beach Post. The three other drivers involved in the multi-vehicle crash also sustained injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol will continue investigating the cause of the crash. The investigating officers reported that they would not issue any charges until they complete the final report.*

Florida Highway Patrol officers described a hectic and chaotic scene when they arrived on location at the multi-vehicle crash in the vicinity of Boynton Beach Boulevard and Woolbright Road. Highway Patrol officers reported that when they received the 911 call around 1:30 p.m. for a multi-vehicle collision with injuries and arrived at the scene of the crash, they learned that the 33-year-old man crashed his 1992 Ford F-350 pickup into the rear of a tractor-trailer truck. Upon further investigation, Highway Patrol officers determined that a 21-year-old woman from Lake Worth Beach driving a 2003 Ford Explorer sports utility vehicle slowed down to avoid debris that was at least partially on the roadway. Her evasive maneuver spawned a chain of events that led to a man’s death.

Officers determined that the 21-year-old driver’s attempt to swerve around the debris forced the driver of an Isuzu box truck to move into the left lane. The victim who died in the crash slammed into the rear of the box truck and spun into the path of an oncoming big rig. The large truck crashed into the victim’s pickup and forced the pickup into the SUV that swerved around the debris. Highway Patrol officers closed the highway for several hours to investigate.
