Fatal Crashes Reported in Putnam, St. Johns, and Duval, Florida

March 21, 2020

JACKSONVILLE, FL- writes that three tragic collisions occurred this weekend in three Florida counties. The first occurred in St. Johns County on State Road 16 close to Interstate 95. The early morning wreck involved a motorcycle and a car. Reports indicate that two individuals were riding on the motorcycle when the crash took place. A 42-year-old woman died in the incident, and the person driving the motorcycle suffered serious injuries.*

The other two collisions occurred in the afternoon around the same time. A crash happened in Duval County in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 at the road’s intersection with Hammond Boulevard. A 61-year-old man from Jacksonville Beach died in the wreck. The other crash involved a motorcycle. The person on the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries in that collision, which occurred in Putnam County. No information is available regarding the identity of that person.

When it comes to deadly motorcycle crashes, the worst states in the nation tend to be located in the south. Obviously, weather plays a role when it comes to the places where there are more motorcyclists. The more motorcycles on the road, the greater the risk of crashes occurring. However, while California has good weather for motorcyclists, Texas has far more crashes and fatalities, indicating that factors other than the weather are impacting the statistics. There is some indication that helmet laws reduce the risks of fatal crashes occurring.

Of course, any fatalities are too many, so even the safest states for bikers should be working to prevent such tragedies from occurring. Whether helmets are required in a state or not, they should always be used as they lower the risk of death and severe injuries.
