Woman from Dunnellon Facing DUI and Hit-and-Run Charges in Citrus County, Florida

March 11, 2020

CITRUS COUNTY, FL- writes that a drunk driver struck a pedestrian in Citrus County this week. After colliding with the victim, the woman fled the scene of the crash, causing a high-speed chase. The driver, a 46-year-old woman from Dunnellon, was traveling in a Toyota SUV in the late morning when she veered off the roadway close to a Walmart and hit a pedestrian.*

An officer spotted the vehicle traveling 73 miles per hour and swerving on and off of CR 491. By the time the trooper caught up with the woman’s SUV, it was off the side of the roadway. According to the police report, the driver fled as the officer attempted to stop her vehicle leading to the chase.

The woman traveled southbound, causing other drivers to swerve to avoid being struck by her car. The woman then drove off the road to avoid a crash and stopped. The officer arrived on the scene and stated that the suspect smelled like alcohol and that she was slurring while speaking to him.

The woman stated that she had a bad knee, and the police, therefore, did not perform the usual sobriety field tests. The results of a breathalyzer indicated that the woman had a blood-alcohol level of around .237 - .238 percent alcohol per volume. In Florida, the maximum legal limit for blood alcohol levels is .08 percent.

If the woman posts bail, she is forbidden from imbibing alcohol or going to any establishment that sells liquor. Reports did not indicate the condition of the pedestrian that the woman struck prior to fleeing from the police officer.
