Man from Ormond Beach Dies in Tragic Daytona Beach Motorcycle Collision
DAYTONA BEACH, FL- Clickorlando.com writes that a motorcyclist died in a collision in Daytona Beach. The incident took place in the evening at the intersection of Plaza Boulevard and North Atlantic Avenue. A nineteen-year-old driver from Daytona Beach was operating a 2017 Honda Civic and traveling northbound, where he stopped to turn left.*
The Civic collided with the rear left side of the 2010 Harley-Davidson FLTRX knocking the rider onto the ground. The motorcyclist was not using a helmet. Responders transported the biker to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver remained at the site of the crash and called emergency services. A witness attempted to perform CPR on the injured biker. It is not yet clear which motorist was at fault for the incident. Detectives are still looking into the cause of the fatal crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
When it comes to riding a motorcycle, there are many risks beyond what is faced by a motorist in a four-wheeled vehicle. One of the biggest risks is other drivers. Many people operating cars and larger vehicles fail to notice people riding two-wheeled motorcycles. Sadly, the motorcyclists are the ones to suffer when a driver cuts into their path and causes a crash. Drivers must learn to share the roadway with smaller vehicles. However, motorcyclists should realize that they are operating a vehicle that makes them vulnerable. Bikers should be vigilant about their own safety, and that will often mean slowing down when they approach an intersection as drivers will often fail to notice them.
