Tragic Crash Involving Motorcycles Kills Two in West Park, Florida

March 10, 2020

WEST PARK, FL- writes that two people died on Hallandale Beach Boulevard in an early morning collision over the weekend. The wreck took place when a group of motorcyclists was traveling westbound close to Southwest 40th Avenue.*

Family members of the victims confirmed the deaths. One of the men was from Belle Glade, and the other was from Miami. The cousin of the Miami victim spoke to reporters, expressing her shock at the horrible tragedy. She stated that the man had a baby on the way, and it that the family is grappling with the fact that he will not be there to raise that child. The other victim was traveling on a Harley-Davidson, and reports indicate that it was split completely in half by the impact. According to his cousin, the group was attending a motorcycle event at the time of the incident.

Police with the traffic homicide unit are working to understand what occurred. Numerous roadways in the area remained closed for the investigation. Images from the scene show debris covering the street at the location of the crash.

Motorcyclists are around 28 times as likely to die in a crash as a person traveling in a passenger vehicle. Because of the risks involved, it is important for these motorists to exercise as much caution as possible. Wearing a helmet can help lower the chances of a crash, as can bright colored or reflective clothing. It is vital that bikers fully understand how to operate their vehicles as well. Motorcycles are less stable and more challenging to operate than a four-wheeled car. Courses are available to help motorcyclists learn how to ride as safely as possible.
