Tragic Tampa Collision Kills One When Car Crashes into Canal
TAMPA, FL- Abcactionnews.com writes that one person is dead following a collision in Hillsborough County. Reports indicate that three vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred on SR-60.*
Police stated that a 43-year-old man was traveling in a Toyota Camry and heading eastbound. The driver crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic and struck a concrete wall before reentering the westbound lanes where the Camry struck two other cars. The Toyota then flew off of the roadway and into the Tampa Bypass Canal and the car submerged in the water, and the victim died at the scene. Five other individuals in the other vehicles were also injured in the collision. The roadway was closed for several hours while officers worked to investigate the incident and clear the scene.
When cars are submerged in water, the occupants may have only seconds to exit. It may be necessary for these drivers to break a window in order to escape their vehicles. Safety experts recommend breaking a side window as the windshield is reinforced and much thicker. There are tools that can be used to crack the glass and to cut off a seat belt if necessary. Drivers may wish to carry them in their cars in a location where they can reach them in an emergency.
In some instances, seat belts may need to be cut when a person is trapped in a vehicle that overturned in a crash. This can be an emergency as well when a vehicle catches on fire after a collision. Given the fact that most drivers will be involved in more than one collision during the course of their lives, it is important to be prepared for any scenario.
