Driver Who Killed Rollerblader in Pompano Beach Identified

February 26, 2020

POMPANO BEACH, FL- writes that a 25-year-old man from Lauderdale Lakes has been identified as the driver who crashed his vehicle in Pompano Beach, killing a woman who was rollerblading next to the roadway.*

The driver was operating a 2007 Nissan Murano and crossed over double lane lines in an attempt to pass another car. However, the motorist lost control of his vehicle and swerved off the roadway and onto a pedestrian path where he collided with the victim. The driver then collided with a tree, and the Nissan broke into two pieces. The victim was declared dead at the scene. The victim was a 27-year-old woman.

In addition to the driver, a 37-year-old woman was traveling as a passenger in the Nissan at the time of the wreck. Both the driver and the passenger were in critical condition. Responders transported them to  Broward Health North.

The driver’s girlfriend spoke to the police and called the driver a sweet man and a loving father. The couple recently became parents to twin girls. The man’s girlfriend stated that she filed a missing person report after her boyfriend had not contacted her all day. The police then told her what had occurred. She stated that she hoped that he would be released from the hospital and come home soon.

The victim’s father-in-law spoke to reporters saying that the family was trying to cope and to understand what had happened to the young woman. The family arranged a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral expenses.  A memorial is now set up at the scene of the tragic crash where the victim’s loved ones held a candlelight vigil in her honor.
