Car Crash Kills Rollerblader in Pompano Beach, Florida
POMPANO BEACH, FL- Wsvn.com writes that a woman died this week while rollerblading in Pompano Beach. The incident occurred when a driver speeding on the roadway lost control over his Nissan and struck a tree. The car split in two with the impact, ejecting the man and a female passenger from the vehicle.*
The violent force caused one half of the Nissan to land in the road while the other struck a fence. The rollerblader was struck by a piece of debris from the wreckage. The victim was speaking to her mother on the phone at the time of the incident, and her mother stated that she heard screaming before losing the connection.
The area is full of bikers and pedestrians and locals stated that the incident was extremely frightening for people who are often walking or biking through the same area as the crash. Residents stated that people traveling on the road need to slow down and that speeding is a major cause of concern on that stretch of road.
Reports indicate that the driver and the passenger from the vehicle were both severely injured in the collision. Responders rushed the two to the Broward Health North hospital for treatment of traumatic injuries. One woman walking with her dog stated that she is now hesitant to even use the trail because the traffic nearby is so bad. Police have not yet released the name of the woman killed in the collision. The crash is still being investigated.
More pedestrians and cyclists die in Florida than in any other state in the nation. Efforts to reduce traffic deaths are complicated by the state’s many high-speed roadways.
