Police Arrest Drunk Driver Involved in Hit-and-Run Crash
TARPON SPRINGS, FL- Abcactionnews.com writes that a drunk driver is now under arrest in Tarpon Springs after the individual was involved in a severe collision. The suspect reportedly drove his vehicle into another car, injuring two people in the other vehicle. The individual then left his vehicle at the scene of the wreck and fled on foot.*
Police later arrested the 43-year-old man with the use of K9 units.
Officers stated that the suspect was speeding in the evening when he veered into another lane of traffic and crashed his Lexus into a Nissan Rogue. Both vehicles were heading east on Keystone Road at the time of the wreck. The crash caused the Nissan to rollover. A 36-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were in the Nissan at the time of the accident. Both of the victims were transported to the Bayonet Point Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. Both are expected to recover.
The suspect exited his vehicle within seconds after the collision and began to run. Fortunately, officers were able to locate and arrest him a short while later. The hit-and-run driver is now facing charges for drunk driving and leaving the scene of a crash.
Just a few days prior to this wreck, another hit-and-run crash took place in Palm Harbor, Florida. The earlier collision left three members of a family dead. Police have not yet located the suspect in that case, who reportedly ran through a red traffic light, causing the deadly wreck. Reports indicate two men were in the suspect’s vehicle, and both fled the scene on foot.
Police are reminding drivers that fleeing the scene of a crash comes with severe consequences, including a maximum of 30 years in prison.
