Car Crashes into House in North Port, Florida

February 06, 2020

NORTH PORT, FL- writes that a vehicle collided with a home in North Port Florida this week. The vehicle traveled through the garage and then through a wall. Images from the scene show a white sedan that is protruding into what appears to be a kitchen.*

The City of North Port’s building division arrived at the home following the wreck.

Cars collide with buildings more often than many people realize. In the case of commercial buildings, dozens of these incidents occur every day. The leading cause of these occurrences is operator error. Drivers may cause one of these incidents by speeding, turning too rapidly, or otherwise losing control of their cars. The next most common cause of such accidents is when a driver mistakenly hits the gas pedal when they intended to use the brakes. These “pedal errors” are common in parking scenarios where drivers intend to come to a stop. Better designed parking spaces that do not point parking vehicles directly at a building may reduce the chances of such an incident occurring.

Drunk drivers and car accidents also cause a large number of such collisions.

Some studies indicate that older drivers are involved in a disproportionate number of vehicle into building crashes. While experts say that they are not recommending that older drivers surrender their licenses, there are ways for these motorists to ensure that they are staying safe and not putting others at risk on the road. Courses designed to refresh driving skills may be useful in some instances.

Crash avoidance systems may also be beneficial when it comes to avoiding these accidents. Cars that come with automatic braking technology may be capable of stopping cars even when the drivers make a major error or fail to pay attention.
