Car Strikes Pedestrian on Street in Tallahassee, Florida

February 02, 2020

TALLAHASSEE, FL- Wtxl.com writes that a car struck a pedestrian in Tallahassee this week on West Tennessee Street. The incident occurred between Stadium Drive and Woodward Avenue during the morning. Reports indicate that the victim suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.*

Police are looking for witnesses of the collision to come forward and report to officers of the Traffic Homicide Unit. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers. Reports do not include information regarding the identity of those involved or details regarding how the collision occurred.

Pedestrian crashes kill thousands across the United States every year. Florida leads the way in these horrible collisions and takes the number one spot for the nation's deadliest state for foot traffic. One of the major causes of the rising number of deadly pedestrian crashes is that more people are driving larger vehicles, such as SUVs. Studies repeatedly show that these vehicles present a greater risk of killing pedestrians than do smaller cars.

Other likely causes include driver distraction and pedestrian distraction. Phones are often considered a contributing factor in the increasing pedestrian death toll. It is important that everyone on the road use caution and stay alert. Drivers traveling in pedestrian heavy areas should slow down to help them avoid these tragic incidents. Traffic patterns can lead to confusion, and drivers may fail to see pedestrians, especially when it is dark out.
