Woman Critically Injured After Two Vehicles Struck her in LaBelle

February 03, 2020

LABELLE, FL- Nbc-2.com writes that a woman from LaBelle suffered severe life-threatening injuries when two vehicles struck her while she was attempting to cross State Road 80 over the weekend. The incident occurred in the evening when the 23-year-old victim was trying to get home. The first vehicle that struck the woman was a pickup truck, followed by a smaller car.*

Doctors told the woman’s family that she had about a 50 percent chance of surviving her injuries. Surgeons removed one of the woman’s kidneys, her spleen, and performed brain surgery to reduce pressure caused by bleeding. Most of the woman’s ribs are broken as well. Still, the victim is alive and fighting to remain so every day.

The drivers involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither motorist received a ticket, however, the victim’s family stated that she was issued a $65 citation for not using a crosswalk. The family states that the roads in the area do not have enough crosswalks and that more needs to be done to help keep pedestrians safe.
