Deadly Crashes on Interstate 95 Kill Three in Flagler County

January 29, 2020

FLAGLER COUNTY, FL- writes that four people have died in Flagler County car crashes in the last week. Last year, the county recorded its fourth traffic death on June 15, which was more than six months into the year.*

Over the weekend, three people died in two crashes that took place within just two hours of one another. Late last week, a teen died in an earlier crash.

The first of the weekend crashes occurred when a 51-year-old man operating a motor home lost control of his 20-year-old vehicle. The driver was traveling with his wife, a 49-year-old woman, and another couple, a 55-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman. The four were en route to St. Johns County for a camping trip. Investigators say that a tire blows out led to the vehicle leaving the roadway and striking a road sign and then two trees. The motor home broke into two pieces. The driver’s wife and the male passenger both died in the accident. The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the other two individuals were injured in the collision and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The wreck caused traffic to slow down, and about two hours later, a 2017 Dodge Ram crashed into the back on a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. The man driving the Dodge had set his vehicle to cruise control and was reportedly traveling 75 miles per hour at the time of the collision. Police say the man operating the Dodge was not paying attention to the road. A 42-year-old woman in the Malibu died in the wreck, and the other occupant in that vehicle is in critical condition. The Malibu collided with a Ford Fusion and a Nissan. Last week, a fourteen-year-old died in a motorcycle crash in the county.
