Severe Crash Injures Two in Escambia County, Florida

January 27, 2020

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FL- writes that a severe collision took place in  Escambia County this week. The early afternoon wreck occurred at the intersection of Highway 29 and Highway 97 in Molina.*

Few details have been released at this time, but two people are reported to have suffered serious injuries in the crash. Emergency medical providers arrived at the scene and transported both individuals to the Sacred Heart Hospital. Images from the site show a grey sedan with severe damage to its front end and dents on its rear driver’s side. A black SUV also sustained serious damage to its front end.

Dangerous crashes often take place at intersections. Left turns account for many of the most serious accidents, as do violations of traffic signals. There are alternative designs for intersections that can cut down on the number of these types of crashes. Roundabouts have been proven to be safer than cross-section intersections. Cars that are moving in a roundabout travel in the same direction, which limits the opportunities for these cars to collide head-on or in side impacts.

Not only do roundabouts reduce the risk of accidents, but they cut down even more drastically on the most serious types of collisions. Roundabouts reduce fatal collisions by about 90 percent. Pedestrian crashes also drop in these situations. By implementing more roundabouts instead of traditional intersections, road engineers could cut down on the number of people injured or killed in car crashes around the United States.  Of course, motorists are the cause of most crashes, and responsible, attentive, and cautious driving will allow drivers to avoid the majority of accidents. Even responsible drivers will not be able to prevent crashes when other drivers violate traffic laws.
