One Killed in Tragic Pensacola, Florida Crash

January 27, 2020

PENSACOLA, FL- writes that a car accident occurred in Pensacola, Florida this week in the afternoon at the intersection of Marcus Pointe and W Street. Reports indicate that a van was traveling northbound on W Street when the driver attempted to turn left. Witnesses stated that the van was driving at a high rate of speed prior to trying to turn. The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a box truck and a semi-truck that was stopped at the intersection at a red traffic signal.*

The driver operating the van died at the scene of the wreck. Three other people inside the van sustained injuries, and responders rushed them to the Sacred Heart Hospital. All three of the injured individuals are reportedly in critical condition.

Police have not yet released information regarding the victim’s identity. The collision shut the intersection down while responders worked to clear the scene. Images taken from the site show a horribly mangled van with extensive front-end damage, passenger side damage, as well as damage to its roof.

Speed is a factor in many serious collisions. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 9,378 people died in 2018 in crashes caused by speeding vehicles. The speed limit is designed to keep all road users safe. While drivers frequently violate the speed limit, it is important to note that more than about one in four deadly collisions are speed-related. When a driver speeds, they risk losing control over their car, increase the amount of time needed to get their vehicle to come to a stop, and increase the risk of more severe damage in the event of a collision.
