Man Severely Injured in Crash on Interstate 75

January 25, 2020

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL- The writes that a driver sustained severe injuries in a crash that took place on Interstate 75 when his SUV rolled over. The victim was traveling northbound on the interstate when another driver crashed into him, causing his 2004 Mercedes SUV to turn over.*

The other driver, a 31-year-old woman, was also traveling northbound in a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta when she realized she was driving too fast to slow down in time to avoid striking vehicles ahead of her that had stopped. The woman traveled onto the median to avoid striking the other vehicles and then veered back onto the road where she collided with the Mercedes.

Responders transported the 44-year-old man who was operating the Mercedes to the Tampa General Hospital.

Police stated that alcohol was not a factor in the collision and that charges for careless driving are pending against the woman.

Driver inattention often leads to vehicles approaching slow or stalled traffic too fast. In many cases, the result is a rear-end collision. These crashes are nearly always avoidable. While drivers can reduce their risks of coming up too fast on other vehicles by traveling at a safe speed, staying focused, and leaving adequate space between vehicles, these crashes remain common. Vehicle crash avoidance systems may be capable of preventing these accidents in many situations. Automatic braking systems will allow vehicles to automatically apply brakes to avoid imminent collisions. Other systems may not be capable of braking but can alert a driver when they are approaching other vehicles. These types of systems are already lowering the number of tragic collisions that occur every year throughout the nation.
