Collision in Estero Injures Five Including Four Teens

January 25, 2020

ESTERO, FL- writes that four teenagers suffered severe injuries in a crash that took place on Three Oaks Parkway over the weekend. The victims were ages eighteen, seventeen, sixteen, and fifteen.*

The eighteen-year-old was driving the Honda Civic at the time of the wreck. The driver’s condition is reportedly critical while the other three victims suffered serious injuries. Responders transported two of the teens to Lee Memorial and the other two to the Golisano Children’s Hospital, where two of those involved are now in the intensive care unit. The Civic collided with a minivan driven by a 44-year-old woman, who also suffered injuries in the crash.

Police reports indicate that the teens were traveling south and attempted to make a left turn, and they were involved in the crash with the northbound minivan. The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the Civic attempted to turn on a red traffic signal. Police issued the teen with a citation for disregarding the traffic light. Videos and images from the scene show the Civic with severe front-end damage and damage on the driver’s side. The woman in the minivan stated that the incident occurred suddenly, and she did not see the other vehicle prior to the impact. The woman’s daughter stated that she arrived at the scene to find both vehicles totaled and her mother with a concussion.

Left-turn crashes are one of the most common types of vehicle collisions on the road. Drivers who are attempting to turn left cause a high number of collisions every year. Some safety experts say that avoiding making left turns altogether would make everyone safer on the road.
