Crash in Lehigh Acres, Florida Injures Woman and Toddler
LEHIGH ACRES, FL- Nbc-2.com writes that a collision in Lehigh Acres injured a woman and a child this week in the late morning. The incident took place at Irene Avenue and SW 48th Street.*
Reports indicate that the woman sustained a broken leg, and the two-year-old girl sustained a head injury. Due to their injuries, responders brought both of the victims to the hospital for treatment. The severity of the injuries is not yet known.
Footage from the accident site shows a black Kia sedan being towed from the scene of the accident. Police are not sure what caused the collision, but it appears to have been a single-vehicle wreck.
Sadly, car accidents are one of the main causes of death for children throughout the country. Many of these deaths are completely preventable. For children ages twelve and under, reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that 35 percent were not using age-appropriate restraints or seatbelts. Studies have revealed that the chances of a child being buckled up correlate to whether the adult is using a seatbelt. About 40 percent of the children traveling in vehicles with unbelted adults were also not using restraints.
Unfortunately, even well-meaning caregivers often put their children at risk by not using restraint systems correctly, and an estimated 46 percent of booster and car seats are not properly installed. By failing to use child safety seats correctly, parents and caregivers are placing children at risk. These devices will not adequately protect occupants when they are not used as intended. Child passenger safety technicians can help provide drivers with information about how to properly install their children’s safety seats.
