Ladder Falls from Truck and Strikes Vehicle on Interstate 75 in Florida

January 18, 2020

RIVERVIEW, FL- writes that a woman in North Port sustained severe injuries in a crash on Interstate 75. The victim was traveling behind a Dodge Ram pickup truck earlier this week during the afternoon when a ladder fell from the truck’s trailer.*

The woman’s Mitsubishi Endeavor collided with the ladder. The crash caused the victim to lose control of her vehicle and veer onto a median before rolling over multiple times. Police identified the victim as a 26-year-old woman. Responders brought the injured woman to the St. Joseph’s Hospital, where her condition is reportedly serious.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 34-year-old man from Valrico, received a citation for loss of load.

Not long before the crash, another collision took place on the interstate. The earlier crash resulted from a tire in the roadway. Early in the morning, a 38-year-old man driving a semi struck a large tire that was in the road. The victim’s truck overturned.

Roadway debris causes a large number of crashes every year, including many fatal accidents. These incidents are often preventable. Many times, objects fall into the road because a driver failed to secure their load properly.

Crashes from road debris often happen because a driver attempts to avoid the object and swerves into other vehicles. Other times, objects can be kicked up by vehicles and strike another car. In some instances, tires and other objects may brake through a vehicle’s windshield causing severe injury or death. It is important that drivers ensure that anything they are carrying is properly attached to their vehicle and that tires are in good condition.
