With record-breaking numbers of drivers on the road for the holiday season in 2019, police issued warnings and advisories for all drivers in Florida. Unfortunately, statistics indicate that many people who celebrate the holidays consume alcohol and then get behind the wheel. Alcohol and driving never mix, and the Florida Highway Patrol will be out enforcing traffic laws throughout the busy season.
December was the most dangerous month for drivers last year, and many of the crashes were the result of impaired motorists. If you are one of the millions of people who will be traveling by car, remember to exercise safe driving practices.
If you plan to attend social events that include liquor, have a designated driver, or use a ride share service. Never take the risk of getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. When on long road trips, assign navigation and music control to passengers. Let someone else program the navigation system or select the songs while your focus stays on the road ahead.
If you did not get enough sleep, do not drive. Drowsy driving is dangerous and puts you and everyone on the road at risk. The holidays should be a time to celebrate. Taking steps to enjoy the holidays responsibly can prevent a tragedy.
