Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Pedestrian in Tragic Crash in Lake Worth Beach

December 26, 2019

LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL- writes that a hit-and-run collision killed a pedestrian earlier this week in Lake Worth Beach. The incident occurred at the intersection of 7th Avenue North and Dixie Highway.*

Police identified the vehicle as a 2005 Cadillac SUV with a Florida license plate CPG1015. The SUV was driving north early in the morning when it struck the victim. Reports indicate that the pedestrian crossed Dixie Highway from the east to the west.

Locals who live and work near the scene say that close calls are frequent on the stretch of road where the accident took place. Many felt that this type of tragedy was inevitable.

The authorities identified the victim as a 39-year-old woman.

Police often struggle to catch drivers in hit-and-run crashes. Sadly, even people who flee the scene of deadly crashes often escape without ever being apprehended for the crime.

As hit-and-run deaths increased around the country, many cities increased the legal penalties in the hopes of deterring people from committing this crime. Unfortunately, many drivers who hit someone and then flee are intoxicated or otherwise impaired and maybe too impulsive to consider the potential consequences.

Another approach taken in some states is to enact laws and systems to encourage and facilitate civilian assistance in identifying and apprehending hit-and-run drivers. When police do find these drivers, they often do so because of help from witnesses and others who provide information that leads to an arrest.
