Police Searching for Suspect After Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Sunrise Blvd in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL. – According to an online news report from, police officers are searching for a suspect following a fatal pedestrian crash that took place on Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Authorities say the driver who hit the pedestrian fled the scene after the crash.*

The collision happened during the overnight hours, close to Northwest 10th Avenue on Sunrise Boulevard. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department and the South Florida Sun Sentinel report that at approximately 2:20 a.m., a pedestrian was attempting to cross Sunrise and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. 

Security footage from a nearby business captured the accident, according to the news report, which shows that the victim made it across one set of lanes on the road and was almost to the other side when the vehicle ran into him. The report indicates that it was raining at the time of the collision, but it is not clear if this was a factor in the accident. The driver of the vehicle did not stop but continued traveling in the same direction on Sunrise Boulevard after the impact.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that the pedestrian was tragically killed in the accident. Authorities identified him as a 53-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale. It is not clear where he had been walking at the time of the crash.

Authorities are still searching for the driver involved in this fatal crash. Police officers say that based on the surveillance footage, they believe the vehicle in question is a gray or light blue SUV. No make or model information for the vehicle was provided, nor was any description of a suspect.
