Tragic Crash Kills One over Thanksgiving Holiday on Interstate 4

December 08, 2019

SEFFNER, FL- writes that a crash killed one person in Hillborough County over the Thanksgiving holiday. The collision took place near Mango Road on Interstate 4. The victim was reportedly a 51-year old man from Tampa.*

Reports indicate that the man was driving westbound in the middle of the night when he veered off the roadway and onto the shoulder. The driver struck the back end of a parked tow truck.

The victim’s vehicle caught fire in the crash. The 34-year-old man driving the tow truck did not suffer any injuries in the crash.

Traffic accidents are common during the Thanksgiving holiday week. Many people are on the road traveling to different destinations. Millions of people travel for the holiday, and about 90 percent do so in their cars.

The holiday brings out more traffic, including people who are driving in unfamiliar locations. Alcohol is also a possible issue because many people drink as a part of their Thanksgiving celebration. The result is crowded roads, more drunk drivers, and people who may not know where they are going.

Many people are surprised to learn that Thanksgiving Day drunk driving deaths are far higher than even drink driving fatalities on New Year’s Eve- a holiday marked by alcohol consumption.

Staying safe while traveling for the holidays means staying sober when driving, ensuring your vehicle is in good condition, staying focused on the road and following traffic laws and posted speed limits. Of course, always use a seatbelt, even on short drives.

Accidents happen, but the vast majority of car crashes are the result of human mistakes and bad decisions. Responsible drivers lower their risks on the road.
