Vehicle Drives into Home Daycare Center in Lakeland, Florida

November 26, 2019

LAKELAND, FL- writes that a driver collided with a daycare center that was operating out of a home in Lakeland, Florida. The crash injured three children inside the house and the driver of the vehicle.*

The incident took place on Jewel Avenue and W. 7thStreet earlier this week. The police say that two of the injured children are two years old, and the third child is eight months old. Another child was in the home at the time but did not sustain any injuries.  Responders transported the three children to the hospital via airlift. The driver also sustained injuries, and an ambulance carried that individual to a nearby hospital.

The authorities now say that all the victims are in stable condition. The details regarding their injuries are not known at this time.

Investigators say that they are looking into the incident as an accident.

About 60 times every day, a vehicle drives into a commercial building somewhere in the United States. Around 500 people die in these types of accidents every year, and another 4,000 or more suffer injuries.

More than half of these crashes happen because drivers make simple errors. One primary type of mistake includes a driver striking the gas pedal instead of the brake. Drivers who confuse the gas for the brakes cause about 23 percent of all storefront accidents. Moreover, drivers who are under the influence cause eighteen percent of crashes. In twelve percent of these crashes, a collision between vehicles causes a car to hit a building. Medical emergencies lead to ten percent of vehicle building accidents, and about eight percent of the time, the driver intended to strike the building. People will sometimes intentionally crash into a building to commit a robbery.
