Two Individuals Tragically Killed, Five Injured After Multiple Vehicle Accident on Interstate 75 in Tampa, Florida
TAMPA, FL – According to an online news report at wfla.com, a fiery wreck involving two tractor-trailers and several other automobiles caused the shutdown of the northern lanes of Interstate 75 earlier this week. The accident occurred close to the Hillsborough and Pasco County line.*
Per the Pasco County Fire Rescue, two individuals tragically died and five others were injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment. Another person involved in the pileup was not injured.
A total of eight vehicles, including two tractor-trailers, were involved in the accident, as noted by the Pasco Fire Rescue.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, eight automobiles were headed north in the outside and center lanes of the roadway, with some slowing down due to traffic ahead. A tractor-trailer failed to slow down in time and swerved into the center lane to avoid hitting other vehicles. However, it slammed into the rear-end of a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, resulting in a chain-reaction crash.
The tractor-trailer continued to move forward and slammed into the rear-end of another tractor-trailer and a Mercedes sedan. This pinned the sedan between the two 18-wheelers.
The semi-truck came to a final stop on top of the Mercedes and then slammed into pillar for a roadway sign on the outside shoulder. Both vehicles caught on fire and became engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Mercedes and the first tractor-trailer driver were tragically killed at the scene of the accident.
