November 12, 2019

OCALA, FL. – According to a news article published online by, a grandfather and his two granddaughters were tragically killed in an alleged DUI crash on County Road 467 in Ocala, Florida.*

The accident happened in the afternoon on the southbound side of County Road 467 at the intersection with County Road 484. Florida Highway Patrol and the Orlando Sentinel report that shortly after 2 p.m., a 1999 Ford F-350 was traveling east on County Road 484, while a 2003 Suzuki Vitara was traveling south on County Road 467.

At the crossing of the two roadways, Troopers say the Suzuki had a green light and entered the intersection. The Ford had a red light and entered the intersection, as well, according to Troopers. The front of the Ford then crashed into the passenger’s side of the Suzuki. After the impact, the Suzuki rolled off the road into a ditch.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the driver of the Suzuki tragically died at the scene. He was identified as a 71-year-old man from Summerfield, Florida. The Orlando Sentinel further reports that the man’s two granddaughters were riding in the Suzuki, one of whom also tragically died at the scene. She was reportedly nine years old. The other granddaughter, age seven, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, according to the Orlando Sentinel, where she tragically died from her injuries.

In addition, the Orlando Sentinel states that two of the three passengers riding in the Ford were injured. They were identified as a 41-year-old man and a 40-year-old man. The other passenger was identified as a 36-year-old man. It is unclear if the driver of the Ford, identified as a 48-year-old man, was injured. The Orlando Sentinel says he has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including DUI manslaughter.
