Family Suing Lakeland, Florida, Adventure Park for Child’s Fall from Zipline

November 06, 2019

LAKELAND, FL. – According to a news report posted at, a family is suing an adventure park located in Lakeland, Florida, after a boy fell from a zipline in September. The family says that the boy sustained serious injuries when he fell from a ride at the Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park.*

The incident happened in September, when a ten-year-old boy was riding the Sky Rider, which is a zipline-style attraction at Urban Air. One person rides the Sky Rider at a time, and the person is tracked along the top of the indoor park inside a harness. The Florida Department of Agriculture, which investigated the incident, reported that the boy fell due to errors made by the staff members of Urban Air.

It appears from investigation that the boy’s legs were not buckled into the harness, so he was holding onto the ride with his arms. He fell when he could no longer hold on, according to the report. The child’s family says he fell about 20 feet to the floor, and he sustained significant injuries. His injuries were not described.

The family has now filed suit against the park, alleging that failures on the part of the park and its staff members caused the accident. The Department of Agriculture said that “operator error” appeared to be the cause of the incident, as investigators found no defects in the harness or the ride equipment.

Urban Air released a statement saying that it was “fully committed to the uncompromising safety and well-being of our guests and employees.” The statement indicated that “appropriate measures had been taken” following the accident. It went on to say that the employees operating the ride at the time the child fell were no longer employed by the park, and other employees had received more training.
