One-Year-Old Child Among Victims of Fatal Boating Crash in Martin County, Florida

MARTIN COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report posted online at, a one-year-old child was among the victims of a fatal boating crash that happened in Martin County, Florida. Two people, including the child, were tragically killed in the accident, according to the report, and deputies and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are investigating.*

The accident happened during a weekend evening at Port Salerno in Martin County. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife, and CBS 12 report that at approximately 8 p.m., a boat crash was reported by Sandsprit Park. The type of boat involved was not described, and it is not clear if more than one boat was involved. 

No information about the events surrounding the accident was reported. It is unclear if the boat crashed into an object or crashed into another vessel, and it remains unknown how the circumstances of the accident were set into motion. Authorities responding to the scene did not immediately report information about the factors that could have contributed to the crash and did not identify any parties who might have been responsible for the accident.

CBS 12 reports that two people on the boat were seriously injured and taken to a local hospital, where they both tragically died. One of the victims was identified as a 29-year-old woman, and the other was identified as a one-year-old boy. It is not clear if the two lived in the area or were visiting from another area.

The report did not indicate how many people were on the boat when it crashed. No other injuries were reported, and no one else who might have been involved was identified. 

Florida Fish and Wildlife will be handling the investigation. No additional information had been released at the time the CBS 12 report was published.
