Man Tragically Dies in Five-Vehicle Wreck on State Road 826 in Miami Lakes, Florida

October 23, 2019

MIAMI LAKES, FL- writes that a man was killed in a multiple-vehicle collision that took place early this week on State Road 826. The accident involved five vehicles. The victim was waiting to be taken to the hospital via airlift when he was declared dead.

The crash led to the closure of all northbound lanes during the late morning. Officials have not yet stated the cause of the deadly accident.

Multiple-vehicle crashes often occur on highways and interstates where vehicles are moving at high speeds. In these situations, drivers may travel too close to one another without realizing that it will take a considerable amount of time for them to slow down in an emergency. After the first collision, additional vehicles may impact other vehicles, resulting in a chain reaction accident.

Vehicles are designed to protect the occupants in a collision. Cars are made to crumble in specific ways to absorb impacts and for airbags to deploy to prevent the occupants from hitting harder surfaces. Unfortunately, many of these features often only work in a single collision. Once airbags have deployed, and vehicles are damaged, their safety features become compromised. If there are additional subsequent impacts, as is the case with a chain reaction collision, the people in the vehicles may be left in a highly vulnerable position.
